Advocacy and Lobby Meeting on Access to Justice regarding the Women with Disabilities at Nepal Police Headquarters

On 2081/08/14 (29 November 2024), under the leadership of the Federation of Women with Disabilities Nepal and in coordination with the Directorate of Women, Children and Senior Citizen -Nepal Police Headquarters, a comprehensive discussion and interactive program was held at the conference hall of the Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kathmandu Office on the issues, challenges related to access to justice for women and girls with disabilities and the role of Nepal Police, judicial bodies and stakeholders, jointly organized by the National Federation of Deaf Nepal (NDFN), Society of Deaf Blind Parents Nepal (SDBP) and National Sign Language Interpreters Association (NASLI), and with the support of Disability Rights Foundation (DRF).
The program was chaired by SSP Dipendra G.C. of Nepal Police Headquarters, DSP Rupa Thapa welcomed all to the program, while Rama Dhakal, General Secretary of the Federation of Women with Disabilities Nepal, moderated the program. Similarly, Presentation on importance of Access to Justice of Women with Disabilities was presented by Chairperson Ms. Nirmala Dhital.

Soon after the presentation, the program included interactions on the identity of people with disabilities, the diversity of disabilities, the reasons for lack of access to justice, and the important role of police offices in this regard. Junior police officers and other police personnel from the women's cells, police complexes, and circles of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur shared their experiences and challenges faced in their daily work for access to justice for women and girls with disabilities. The police administration has expressed its commitment to pay serious attention to ensuring access to justice for women and girls and to issue circulars to the police complexes, police circles and women's cells under its jurisdiction.
