Advocacy and Lobby Meeting on Access to Justice regarding the Women with Disabilities at Gokarneshwor Municipality ward 1
FWDN conducted an advocacy on access to justice and awareness-raising programs on violence and sexual abuse against women and children on the special occasion of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence with disabilities in coordination with the Gokarneshwor Municiapality ward-1, a comprehensive discussion and interactive program was held at Gokarneshwor Municipality ward no.01, Ishwori Adarbhoot School, Okhreni on the issues, challenges related to access to justice for women and girls with disabilities, jointly organized by the National Federation of Deaf Nepal (NDFN), Society of Deaf Blind Parents Nepal (SDBP) and National Sign Language Interpreters Association (NASLI), and with the support of Disability Rights Foundation (DRF) on Mangsir 16, 2081 (1st December, 2024).
In the discussion the Chairman of the School Management Committee, reiterated his dedication to enhancing the physical facilities of schools in Gokarneshwor Municipality to make them accessible for individuals with disabilities. He also emphasized the importance of raising awareness about disability issues and organizing informal classes periodically to educate people about violence and abuse targeting women and girls with disabilities. The Administrative Chief of Gokarneshwor Municipality, mentioned that the municipality is willing to assist students in obtaining materials and information that can aid in income generation and livelihood opportunities. The discussions held were very engaging and interactive. Similarly, Deputy Chief of Municipality also shared that Municipality will always be keen to provide the assistance to the livelihood participants and the Person with Disabilities of the Municipality.
