Advocacy and Lobby Meeting on Access to Justice regarding the Women with Disabilities at National Inclusion Commission

On 2081/08/13 (28 November 2024), under the leadership of the Federation of Women with Disabilities Nepal and in coordination with the National Inclusion Commission, a comprehensive discussion and interactive program was held between FWDN , co-organizing organizations, commission, and staff of the National Federation of the Deaf Nepal (NDFN), Society of Deaf Blind Parents Nepal (SDBP), and the National Sign Language Interpreters' Association (NASLI),, and the support of Disability Rights Fund (DRF), on the issues related to access to justice for women and girls with disabilities and the role of the National Inclusion Commission in efforts to resolve them.
The program, with chief guest Honorable Member of the National Inclusion Commission, Shri Hari Dutt Joshi and Honorable Member Shri Man Prasad Khatri, was moderated by Rama Dhakal, General Secretary of the Federation of Women with Disability Nepal, while the Chairperson of the Federation, Ms. Nirmala Dhital, also gave an orientation with the aim of "Understanding the issues and solutions of women and girls with disabilities on access to justice".
After the presentation, the interaction included major discussions on multifaceted issues related to the identity of persons with disabilities, the diversity of disabilities, the reasons for the lack of access to justice, and the role of the Commission. In addition, the status of access to justice for women and girls with disabilities in Nepal, the challenges they face, and ways to address them were also discussed in detail. Similarly, the commission expressed their commitment to collaborate with the Federation to develop guidelines and issue circulars and recommendations to the relevant bodies, drawing the Commission's serious attention to ensuring access to justice for women and girls.
